Learn how Prithika Parthasarathy's life-threatening accident helped her in venturing AVA
As a first generation engineer turned entrepreneur, Prithika had the vision to create a skincare brand that would be synonymous with flawless skin through the use of naturally sourced ingredients. After a near-fatal accident which led to multiple surgeries, Prithika was inspired by the ancient Ayurveda remedies passed along by her ancestors and the wonders it did to her skin. With her previous expertise of launching a world-renowned skincare brand, THANN, in India in her back pocket, Prithika traveled the world to learn of innovative ingredients that blend the best of eastern and western skincare techniques. After distilling years of knowledge on natural ingredients and their blends from her travels, AVA was born and has become one of the fastest growing skincare startups in India.
In the year 2012, while traveling in an auto-rickshaw, Prithika had a major accident which ripped off muscles from my ankle and kneecap. She was hospitalized for four months. After the accident, she was lying in a pool of blood when she was rescued by two people – a young guy traveling in a bus on the opposite side of the road who saw the accident and got off the bus to help her, and another gentleman who was traveling by car, who also stopped and helped her to the hospital .

"The young guy took care of all her belongings. He handed them over to my sister. And the other gentleman for having shifted me to Columbia Asia hospital and depositing Rs 2 lakh in cash at the hospital registration counter so I could be attended to immediately, without even knowing who I was or anything about her. We returned the money immediately, but they never left their contact numbers and I could never properly thank them. Yet, they remain in my heart and I think of them with gratitude as they demonstrated what humanity is all about", Prithika expressed.
Prithika personally saw how Siddha medicines helped her recover which inspired her to start AVA. "Even though it is a part of every Indian household - we all definitely don’t cherish our moms' and grandmoms' recipes and I was no different until I was a direct beneficiary of the same. All of us want to look our best and we want to look like that eternally which is ironic in nature. We can’t defy aging but we can definitely try to rejuvenate and restore our skin using natural and organic ingredients. I believed that if there was a way to heal the skin naturally and bring back its glow and strength- that will be the best beauty regime without our skin getting addicted to it".

Challenges faced while setting up AVA
Major challenges as any startup has - all “M” - money, man power, mentors and mechanism to run a smooth business. "I have been blessed to have very good mentors and manpower who helped me to create a mechanism for my business. Of course, the most vital component is Money which has been an issue and it will work out. We have had the incredible support of all our vendors, clients, customers who have sometimes personally given their referrals to help us grow. Sometimes we have had customers selling at our counter to new customers recommending our brand and validating it. Thanks to all of them who have helped us grow. Money is the net outcome of any business and that will come. I personally believe that business is like a tiling puzzle that requires the assembly of often oddly shaped interlocking and tessellating pieces and when placed correctly, it’s a beautiful picture".
Future plans
AVA intend to grow globally and expand in Asia, US and UK markets. However, Prithika would want to invest into research and develop more intelligent skin care products and have sustainable products and add value to our supply chain and end customers. AVA's focus will be to have more eco-friendly turn key product lines.
