Kajol Bhatia is a simple Sindhi girl who was brought up in Bangalore, India. She was born as Sapna Nagpal into a business family. A fashion designer by profession and a happy homemaker by choice. After she married at a tender age, despite being well-educated and influential, she chose to keep her career on hold in order to completely devote all her time to her loving husband and adorable sons. She has undoubtedly come a long way since then.
Kajol has always been vivacious and high on energy. Along with that and her certifications of a grooming consultant and event manager, she organizes trips, surprise birthday parties, get-togethers, and grooming workshops. She is also passionate about helping the underprivileged in many ways than one. She was an integral part of the well-known charity organization, Ladies Circle India (a subset of Round Table India), where she first emerged as a spokesperson and leader. The association has empowered 5 million children all over the world while Kajol has personally adopted two orphanages and an acid victim.
With an internal resolute and determination to be an achiever, she was constantly on the lookout for a platform to showcase her many talents. Kajol’s journey, of becoming Mrs. India, began in January 2018, after she received a WhatsApp image inviting all married women to audition for the Mrs. India Karnataka 2018 contest. While she was hesitant to take part, her husband encouraged her to register herself, not to win but, for the exposure and a learning experience. Little did she know that she would go on to be among the 32 finalists selected out of 132 women.
Kajol BhatiaIn order to boost her own self-confidence and believe that she could substantiate her potentiality, she worked tirelessly and allotted many hours to getting herself ready for victory. Her family supported her in her journey, and she was able to explore a whole new world out there. With a lot of hard work, determination and dedication, she followed a disciplined fitness regimen and trained herself in many areas such as skin and hair care, ramp walks and public speaking. Being artistic since she was a young girl, she also worked on the themes, props, outfits and complete look, with much deliberation, herself.
When Kajol won the State title of ‘Mrs. India Karnataka 2018’ and the sub title of ‘Best Diva 2018’, she was truly happy that her hard work had paid off. She scored the maximum for her simple but rousing answer. On being asked why she thought that this competition was arranged for the married women, she said what she believed, “The purpose of a lady, or a leader, is to empower others, and Mrs Pratibha ma’am, the beautiful soul that she is; her purpose was to elevate the other women and to bring out their confidence, and give them a platform where they could discover themselves and feel more beautiful from inside and outside.”Bigger challenges were in the pipeline, while she prepared for the National competition through family trips, household chores and other commitments. ‘Tough’ wasn’t in her dictionary, so with her mantra - patience and perseverance leads to success, she worked twice as hard and faced all the challenges that came her way.
Mrs. India 2018 pageant was a five-day long event, where 72 contestants, were judged on various platforms. The competition included overall conduct, attitude, time management and more. Where the participants were under constant evaluation and had to prove to be a woman of substance. The sessions and rounds were more intense and included workshops of Yoga, Odissi dance, Silambam martial arts, gourmet cooking, self-make up, etc. They had themed photo shoots like Modern Shakuntala, Corporate round, Pool wear and Gym wear. But the most challenging, apart from the finale, was the Pre-judging round. The Grand finale, held on 30th July, was a gala evening where the show encompassed creativity, fashion and glamour. Kajol Bhatia was crowned ‘Mrs India 2018‘ in the Classic category. On asking her about her glamorous outfit, she said, “With a background of a fashion designer, I put in a lot of effort to make this complete attire myself – piece by piece. I first picked up red and yellow silk fabrics which represent my Karnataka flag colours and matching south Indian silk borders to add to the authentic traditional look. I spent a lot of time with the printer and got the Mysore Palace n elephants printed (depicting a Dusshera procession which is the pride of Karnataka). Then, when I couldn’t find anyone to paint the dupatta, I sat down and did it myself before a friend helped me complete it. After getting the outfit stitched, I added coloured stones to highlight the design. And finally, to give it a dramatic look I stitched LED lights on the dupatta for the Mysore Palace to be lit up.”Following the National Crown, happiness, as well as stress, took the best of Kajol as she prepared for the International contest. In the midst of family functions, social commitments, and motherhood, she managed to dedicate a few hours a day for the ultimate competition. The rounds were tougher at the International level that had 30 finalists from many Asian and European countries; each one being the best from their respective county. At the Grand Finale, Kajol wore a gorgeous silk lehenga combined with a huge prop that she had made, out of recycled products to represent the Indian Goddess, herself. Kajol made her country proud when she walked away with the International Crown for the subtitle of ‘Mrs. Charming Asia International 2018’ - a designation added to her name for life!
