Today’s Life is quite fast-paced, and in this urban lifestyle, we are under constant work pressures and schedules which affect us as well as our skin, Along with the environmental factors such as pollution. As a new mom and an entrepreneur, I have realized that women undergo a lot of work stress and at the same time they have the pressure of looking good. On the other hand, we are scared to expose our skin regularly to products that are chemical based. And that's why we go back to the secret recipes of our grandmothers as they are time-tested, skin friendly and we totally have trust and comfort using them.
Based on my experience over the years that I have spent listening about various skin concerns that urban women face these are my favourite go-to recipes which I use from the ingredients in the kitchen which are my ‘Kitchen Remedies’:
Turmeric: Turmeric is one of the most common and easily found ingredients in the Indian. It works as an antiseptic, the best one, as it consists of natural anti-oxidant, skin brightening properties.
Honey: It is known for its properties to moisturize as well as brighten skin. Along with lemon juice, honey makes for an excellent skin brightening cum moisturizing remedy.
Curd: Using curd as a base helps your skin glow by nourishing it from within as it comprises of good bacteria. Because of the lactic acid present in it, it organically exfoliates and moisturizes your skin mixed with turmeric and lemon proves an excellent remedy for removing tanning and as it gently exfoliates and moisturizes the skin.
Cinnamon: One of the most obvious outcomes of stress is acne and dark spots and we all fight with it. Cinnamon is one ingredient that works great in reducing the acne and its spots as the antibacterial properties of this spice help eliminate the bacteria that cause acne. Honey is known for its skin-lightening properties, successfully removes spots. Applying a paste of cinnamon and honey can help get rid of both acne and its spots.
Coffee: For all the Coffee lovers here is good news, the caffeine in coffee that gives you the kick from inside can also give your skin a kick too. As it's rich in antioxidants, it smoothens, protects and stimulate the skin. It works best to remove dark circles, tanning, acne treatment, and cellulite reduction. Coffee increases blood circulation and sloughs away dead skin gently so that your skin feels smoother and cleaner and brightened.
All you need to do is you can mix coffee, sugar and coconut oil and use as a scrub. This may help decrease the appearance of cellulite. This paste can also be applied under your eyes adding some water for combat dark circles.
Tomatoes: Next on my list would be tomatoes, Open pores has always been an issue and it stimulates acne growth. To get rid of this issue applying a paste of tomato or rubbing a slice of tomato will clean the pores and make the skin less prone to acne. It will also remove tan and help in giving a glow to your skin. Cucumber keeps the skin cool and that helps people with oily skin to reduce facial oil secretion which in turn reduce acne.
Coconut oil: It is one such miraculous ingredient which we use in most of our products as it is great for the skin. It keeps the skin heavily moisturized, fights redness, acne, irritation too on the skin. You can directly apply it on the skin or make a scrub using coconut oil with sugar. Exfoliating the skin with this scrub will slough off dead skin and the oil will leave the skin moisturized. It is good for the lips too, scrub it to remove the dryness, chappiness and moisturize it. Coconut oil is the best in removing makeup too as it is mild and gentle on the skin.
Last but not least is my most favourite Grandmother's homemade for glowing skin. It is been passed on to generations and works wonders for the skin. A mixture of besan, lemon juice, turmeric, curd, and honey. You can use a small pinch of turmeric and others in equal quantities and use on your skin. This homemade face mask takes care of almost all the concerns of the skin.
