Met Gala - Super Bowl of fashion: Fast to Slow Sustainable Fashion

By Admin

3 August, 2019

The textile industry is the second most polluting sector after the oil industry. The fast-fashion brands aim at fast low-cost production which leads to excess inventory and garment disposal by consumers which in turn affect our environment. The fast fashion is a term used to describe the process in which designs, clothes, move quickly from the catwalk to retailers, with manufacturers offering them inexpensive and fast and the consumer gets the item in their hand as soon as possible and for as little money as possible. Many people are not aware that their wallet-friendly purchases at big fashion chains have a great effect on human trafficking, the quality of employee working conditions, and the environment. The industry is responsible for adding to human rights issues, and promoting the use of forced and child labour. On the other hand, slow fashion ditch chemical dyes over vegetable dyes, natural fabrics, and work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The fast-fashion demand has been influenced drastically by society and our obsession with events such as red carpet award shows and fashion weeks. Slow fashion, in turn, decreases the speed of production, consumption by placing greater appreciation on one's purchase - ethical living!slow fashion, bananivista Minnku Buttar, Fashion chairperson of ALL Ladies League ( with 100,000 members worldwide), is  curating a Red Carpet event with a difference to bring Awareness in Society that Fast Fashion is the process of Imitating trends and styles senselessly by spending more on cheaper garments produced by  retail giants by  exploiting workforce in other countries and harmful impact on the environment. This cheaper consumption by consumers ends up equally fast in Landfills as it's easy on conscience to discard them. Met Gala- Super Bowl of Fashion will witness Panel discussion by eminent Speakers who will speak about the above Topic and 15 Designers to carefully consider pre-acquisition in pre-selected muses/models wardrobes and co-create, Re-use, Re-cycle, Re-purpose the existing ensembles into stunning Outfits fit for Red Carpet Ramp walk. ( No buying new to add to Landfill). Join the cause on 7th August, Ritz Carlton, Bangalore. To know more such events in the city, follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.
