Spontaneous and Dynamic in nature and an educationalist by profession, Supreet’s passion lies in the field of anchoring. With the ability to think on her feet, binding audience and an appreciable international exposure; Supreet has had both corporate and commercial hosting experiences that comprised working with top artists and cheering large gatherings. 12 years of TV anchoring has brought enriching moments of celebrity interviews and live hosting where she had the pleasure of interacting with the biggest of Bollywood/Hollywood Stars. The Beginning:
Supreet chanced upon anchoring or live hosting as a profession.  She was managing the family business of English teaching when she saw a pageant advertisement and decided to give it a go. Although she didn't win the contest, she was noticeably very active in interactions, camera bytes and even went around taking interviews of fellow contestants in jest. That's when the shooting crew pointed out that what she did for fun is actually paid for! They connected her to a popular entertainment channel who was looking for a presenter for an international travel show. She couriered her audition DVD to Mumbai and was thankfully called over for a look test. Before she could make sense of this opportunity, she was stood amidst the hustle-bustle of a busy street in Malaysia giving her first anchor link. Needless to say, there was no looking back after.
Challenges faced:
The foremost challenge was the balancing act between the family business in Delhi and the entertainment business in Mumbai. As the MD of an English teaching institute, I had time-consuming responsibilities that couldn't be ignored. But anchoring became her first love. How do you choose one over the other? The battle of head Vs heart was at its peak during then. I sat with my team, delegated tasks and achieved a middle ground. For 3 straight years, I gave 15 days to each city so I could do justice to both the professions! That just meant hectic travels and a lot of air miles! Haha hosting, bananivista Supreet Bedi
 Gender Inequality issues:
"Surprisingly, I did. And it wasn't to do with pay or perks but mere content. Male anchors could get away with murder in their scripts under the blanket of humour. Similar efforts were not taken well from a female host. We were considered more prop-ish. Look good, smile, say your lines and zip it. I found that too robotic. So I tried to add my flavour every now and then. But mostly, I was instructed to keep it simple. Once I remember a popular Bollywood actor and his PR team took serious offense because I told him during an interview that he resembled someone else. It wasn't derogatory, mere observation conveyed in a fun manner. But it didn't go down well. I knew if a male anchor said that in a joking manner that would have been ok. Such things always wound me up. Thankfully things changed and more acceptance came in. I'm glad my personality was reflected in my speech and now my style isn't cramped by conformity", Supreet expressed.
Achievements and Recognitions
Supreet received two 'Rashtriya Ekta Samman' awards in the field of education and that made the balancing struggle worth it. She has been anchoring for over 12 years now and been recognized as one of the top hosts/emcees in the country is an achievement in itself.
When not hosting an event:
"I'm also a personality enhancer and train people in various areas of communication. Especially pageant winners who represent India at international platforms. I love to write and my blog 'It's a Supa Life!' keeps me busy where I share my experiences with a sprinkle of humour", Supreet informed.
Future plans
Supreet wishes to bring the aspects of social etiquette and communication outside the classroom and reach out to people in the comfort of their homes. Therefore, I'm in the middle of compiling some online courses and everyday videos that everyone will have easy access to. In addition, she is also writing a novel that should be ready to publish next year.
Quote that keeps her moving
"Follow your soul, it knows the way." I am where I am because I did just that. Armed with a Masters degree in computer science, I confidently hold the mic and take the stage each day not once regretting my decisions. Judgemental eyes have no room in my life and I'm always in pursuit of absolute happiness.
