Whether it was 5000 years ago or 5 months ago, the relevance of Lord Krishna’s advice still stands the test of time. As we celebrate ‘Krishna Janmashtami’, the birthday of Lord Krishna, what better way to honor him than revel in the pearls of wisdom he left behind for us. Krishna was the best diplomat, administrator, friend, warrior, teacher, and lover the world has ever seen. His actions and words hold good even today.
- Do What You Love, Love What You Do:
We’ve all heard and read this statement, but it was Krishna who showed us how to use it. He was a master flute player, had a knack for playing pranks, danced with the gopis, and gave away his pearls of wisdom to those who sought them. He never gave up his passion projects when times were rough, in fact, he dedicated his entire life around doing the things he loved so that the tough times didn’t feel as tough and he urges us to do the same. Playing the guitar, writing in a journal, learning how to get better in your favorite job, it’s now or never!

- Be of Service:
If there’s one thing the Universe and the ‘Law of Attraction’ have taught us, it’s that to get something we must render something to receive it. Asking the Universe to give, give, give will only elicit the Universe to ask you to give, give, give. Instead, when you ask ‘HOW can I be of service, then the Universe serves you. Krishna helped one and all, those who earnestly called out to him were always rescued. As Lord Krishna says in the Bhagwat Gita, ‘The wise work for the welfare of the world without thought of themselves.’
- Take Life One Day at a Time:
To be in the present is the only way to live. Krishna was all-knowing, yet he chose to live in the present. He lived in the moment; gave sound advice to Arjuna on the battlefield, participated in the fun of stealing butter, knowing fully well the endings of tomorrow. What’s stopping us from being completely in the moment? We are lucky to be withheld from the events of the future, if not, we would be fearful of the future and destroy the present, never having a moment of peace.
- Value your friendships:
Krishna had more friends than enemies. His youth and adulthood were marked by his mischievous and calming demeanor, all of which drew many people to love him more with every passing day. Krishna’s closest friends were Sudama, Arjuna, Draupadi, and Uddhava. He proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that genuine friendships are rare and a thing to be treasured. From a mentor and protector to charioteer and door-keeper, Krishna was never ashamed to be there for his friends in any form and circumstance.

- Communicate Subtly:
He was the King of diplomacy and made it a point to put across his intentions in the best possible way. He always preferred to settle disputes through his wit and wisdom. He could disarm warriors and unite hearts with a few subtle words. Krishna is telling us that it’s better to employ love and gentleness rather than anger and force. It never hurts to make friends, but when you can turn an enemy into a friend, that can un-do lifetimes of suffering.
- Energize and Motivate:
As Lord Krishna says in the Bhagwat Gita, ‘Anything in this world can be achieved or overcome through the power of will.’ In the business world, whether you’re an employee or an entrepreneur the way to succeed is to constantly replenish your energy and use that drive to motivate those you work with.
We may all not have the time to turn the pages of the Gita and take notes, but choose one area in your life, infuse it with the divine word and energy of Lord Krishna this Janmashtami and reap the benefits.
