A tete-a-tete with 14 year old Opera and Western Musical Singer-Aditi Iyer

Aditi Iyer, a 14-year-old Western vocalist who loves to sing Classical/ Opera, Pop, and Broadway musical songs in her own unique ‘popera’ style. Music and singing run in her veins. She has over 130 music videos on her YouTube and 17500 followers on her Facebook. She aims to become an accomplished international singer. She was invited to sing on live TV in Europe and have sung in several radio broadcasts in Europe and India (including 94.3 Radio One and 92.7 Big FM). She has collaborated with very talented musicians such as Aditya Narayan, Vasuda Sharma, BlaaZe and Ravi Iyer. In an exclusive interview with us, she shares about her journey and future plans. BV: What inspired you to take western classical? Aditi: I was about eight years old when I met Ms. Situ Singh Buehler, a leading opera teacher in India and she heard me sing and instantly decided to teach me breathing techniques and I picked up a classical base from her and never looked back. Of course, I was already going strong singing Western pop since I was three years of age.   BV: When did you start your journey in music and start recording your songs? Aditi: I started humming tunes when I was nine months old and music and singing became my life from then on. I love and live for music. I started performing live and thereby recording songs since I was seven / eight years old and this is all I ever wanted to do in life. There is nothing that I plan on doing except for music and singing which is why I am pursuing it not just as a career but it’s also my whole life. Aditi Iyer BV: Which is the best experience in your career so far? Aditi: I have had many amazing and awe-inspiring experiences in my musical journey including my prestigious Next Star Romania performance of ‘Hero’ on the world stage before stunned iconic judges in Bucharest, Romania when I was just nine years old. Then I sang a duet with Aditya Narayan and did a wonderful collaboration with 22 senior artistes when I was ten years and I was the youngest. Last year my NCPA opera performance mesmerized the Mumbai audience and music lovers and I am very proud of being invited to sing at the experimental theatre of NCPA. BV: What is your normal schedule like? How many hours do you practice music? Aditi: As a pupil, I am like any normal kid balancing my studies with the love of my life which is music. As an artist, and someone whose life is music, there’s nothing average about me or what I do. I started recording songs in studio and singing live when I was just eight years old and I sacrifice many things to do great in singing and music — give up yummy foods to take care of my throat, find time to rehearse and practice every day for an hour, listen to all kinds of music and writing songs, themes of songs and composing music too. Plus I love live performance and concerts as that’s part of my life. Aditi Iyer BV: Who is your biggest support and why? Aditi: My mother has been my biggest support as always. My father is my huge fan and provides with ample opportunities. My uncle has supported me in the initial years too. My fans and supporters are very encouraging of me and that gives me huge motivation. At the same time, I am very self-motivated too.   BV: Your future plans Aditi: I see myself being very accomplished in music and singing. I aim to perform in prestigious venues and huge events in India and abroad and want to sing for millions of people around the world. I will strive hard and become an accomplished world-famous singer by the grace of God and sing for a million good reasons for millions of people.
