Clothes have transformative power. I remember as a child; we were asked to write an essay in school about what we would like to be when we grow up, I knew without a shadow of a doubt and wrote on being a fashion designer. Clothing is a language on its own, and it has absolute authority over how a person is perceived. It is crucial to be content in whatever you pursue in your life. Designing clothes gives me a sense of purpose, contentment and joy! That is why I’ve been working on my dream for the last ten years, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world! BV: Are you currently working on a collection? Puja: Yes! I am working on a ready to wear collection that has sustainable, comfortable, no-stress outfits. Primary fabrics for this collection are Cotton and Chanderi, for more ornate costumes- silk and crepes. The mood is purely on clean-cut silhouettes which are featured with smooth, light, and fun draping styles. Colour scheme includes pastels and earthy tones. Perfect to start and end the day in the same outfit. clothes, bananivista Green Dress clothes, bananivista Green Corset

BV: What is the first thing customers notice when they walk into your studio? Puja: When a customer arrives at my studio, they notice a variety of silhouettes, right from ruffles to more structured fitted garments that take them into the fantastical world of Alice in Wonderland! One can also see my kids-wear range for girls from regular cotton wear to à la mode festive wear. I also design handbags to match the outfit, making it a perfect made-to-order ensemble. The studio brandishes a wide range to consciously cater to a large number of requirements for diverse client groups. clothes, bananivista Studio Nile by Puja Jolly clothes, bananivista The kids Collection

BV: What are your store must-haves right now? Puja: Currently, everyone is in a mood to slip into something chic and comfortable so you will find elegant RTW shift dresses, shirts, and a couple of stylish draped outfits. clothes, bananivista Kids Wear

BV: Do you design by seasonal trends or follow a recurring signature theme in all your creations? Puja: Today, there are so many sources of inspiration! I pick on everything that inspires me, current trends, styles, and colours. Most of my creations are very straight forward, and I’d say that is my defining, signature style.

BV: Apart from retail, do you take custom-made design requests? Puja: Every woman has a unique physique, and I like to be dedicated towards personal aesthetics; hence my custom-made design request is my USP. My clients are from all over who are very different and see fashion in different ways and to cater to their unique fashion personas is a joyous experience! clothes, bananivista White Outfit BV: A quote you live by in your life? Puja: ‘LIFE ISN’T PERFECT, BUT YOUR OUTFIT CAN BE’. BV: According to you, what does it take for a passionate young designer to start his/ her label? Puja: You said it ‘PASSION’, it trumps everything else in the world. When you create something with your heart and soul, it reflects in your work. It’s always a bonus to have the necessary amount of technical skills required to come out on top.   BV: Who is your design inspiration? Puja: Aneeth Arora’s label ‘Pero’, the Italian designer Roberto Cavalli and John Galliano, the British designer has and will always inspire me.   BV: Your style advice for an interview. Puja: BE YOUR OWN MUSE!

BV: What is your target audience? Puja: Women from the age group of 30-55, who are aware of their style needs and have a sense of tending consciousness.   BV: Where is your store located? Puja: My studio is located in the heart of the city close to the iconic Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road. Situated on #4 Aga Abbas Ali Road, Ulsoor. Under the Name of Studio Nile by Puja Jolly.
